Candidate Forums
Volunteers Needed for Pros & Cons Presentations.
As part of our ongoing non-partisan mission to educate voters on issues and candidates, the LWVSSMC organizes and hosts candidate forums.
Candidate forums are conducted for contested elections for:
- city councils
- school districts
- special district offices
These forums are an excellent opportunity to meet the candidates and become familiar with the issues in upcoming elections.
In organizing the forum, the League:
- invites all candidates to participate
- coordinates with the local community to determine date and site
- promotes community participation through public announcements
- partners with local community organizations to co-host the forum
- provides an impartial LWV moderator
- provides LWV volunteers to facilitate questions from the audience
- provides video taping of the forum to be viewed on public access television
If you would like to request a candidate forum for your community, please contact the League at candidate_forums@lwvssmc.org
Volunteers Needed for Pros & Cons Presentations
This November's election will feature several local races, including City Council races in Atherton, Menlo Park, and East Palo Alto and County of San Mateo Supervisor, 3rd District.
As part of our Voter Services efforts to educate local community members about their local government, we sponsor candidate forums. The candidate forum is an essential tool for the voter. At the forums, the voter can learn about local issues and hear the positions of the candidates running for their city councils.
We need your help to make these candidate forums a success! For each forum we need 4 people - a moderator, a question collector, a question reviewer, and a timekeeper. No previous experience is necessary.
The forums will be scheduled for evenings in late September and early October. Please visit our website for the specific dates or email Debby Maio, Candidate Forums Coordinator at candidate_forums@lwvssmc.org
Join the fun, support your League efforts, and be a part of democracy in action!
